The Himalayan range at first light

Our story

A small Kathmandu team that runs the trails it grew up on.

We plan and run our own trips. No reseller layer, no franchise. The same guides you book with are on the trail with you.

The story

A guiding company built by guides.

Nepal Travel Mate is a small Kathmandu trek operator. We started because the team had spent years on the trail for other agencies and wanted to run trips the way we would want one run for us — honest about the difficulty, careful with acclimatisation, fair on what the porters carry and earn.

We plan and run our own trips. The same Nepal Tourism Board licensed guides you book with are the ones on the trail with you. Permits (TIMS, ACAP, MCAP, Sagarmatha National Park entry, restricted-area permits where applicable) are arranged in-house. The Kathmandu office handles the logistics; the guides handle the mountain.

We work across the four regions we know well — Khumbu (Everest), Annapurna, Manaslu, and Langtang — plus shorter Kathmandu Valley days and a handful of activity add-ons that trekkers ask us to slot in around the main trip. We don't try to sell every itinerary in Nepal. We sell the ones we run.

What we believe

Three commitments we won't budge on.

These are the rules we run trips by. They are not marketing.

Local first

Our guides, porters, and office team are hired in Nepal. We work with the same teahouse families on each route every season, and we follow the porter weight limits the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal publishes we cap porter loads at 25 kg in line with TAAN guidelines.

Safe by design

Lead guides are Nepal Tourism Board licensed and wilderness-first-aid trained. We carry a pulse oximeter on every trek and build conservative acclimatisation schedules into itineraries above 3,000 m. We require every trekker to carry insurance that covers helicopter evacuation up to the trek's maximum altitude.

Leave it better

Pack-out policy on plastic, batteries, and tin. Porter loads kept within published TAAN limits, with full insurance and warm gear provided to every porter on every trip.

The team

People who've been up the mountain.

Our office staff and trail leads are Nepali, and most have spent at least one season on a route before joining the office. It shows up in how we answer questions — specifically, with metres and days and permit costs, not slogans.

Names, roles, and a sentence on each person. We will render cards once you supply the list.
