Trek Overview

The Nar Phu Valley Trek is one of Nepal's most remote and culturally rich trekking adventures, taking you deep into the hidden valleys of the Annapurna region. Opened to foreign trekkers in 2003, this restricted-area trek remains largely untouched by mass tourism, offering an authentic Himalayan experience through ancient Tibetan-influenced villages, dramatic canyons, alpine meadows, and rugged mountain landscapes.

The journey begins in the Marsyangdi Valley before leaving the classic Annapurna Circuit to enter the secluded villages of Nar and Phu. Along the way, you'll cross narrow gorges, walk through pristine forests, visit centuries-old Buddhist monasteries, and experience the unique traditions and lifestyle of local communities that have remained unchanged for generations. The adventure reaches its highest point at Kang La Pass (5,322 m), where breathtaking panoramic views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, Himlung Himal, and Chulu East reward every step of the climb. The journey begins in the Marsyangdi Valley before leaving the classic Annapurna Circuit to enter the secluded villages of Nar and Phu. Accommodation & Meals

Accommodation

You'll spend two nights in Kathmandu in a comfortable hotel before and after the trek. On the trail, you'll stay in traditional teahouses run by local Nar and Phu families, with one night at a monastery lodge near Nar Phedi. Rooms are twin-share with a bed, blanket, and pillow. Given the remote, restricted nature of this valley, facilities are simpler than on more developed trekking routes, particularly in Phu Village and around Kang La Pass, where electricity and hot water are limited.

Meals

All meals during the trek are included. Breakfast typically consists of porridge, eggs, and Tibetan bread. Lunches and dinners feature dal bhat (rice with lentil soup), thukpa, noodles, and simple soups. Vegetarian options are always available. Because Nar Phu is a restricted valley with limited outside supply access, menu variety narrows the deeper you go into the valley, particularly around Phu Village and Nar.
